“Ladies and gentlemen, the conflict in the Middle East is temporary. The true forever war is the national Democrats’ war against Alaska oil and gas and our jobs. That’s the forever war,” - U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan, R-Alaska, at a campaign rally with President Donald Trump in Wasilla on Oct. 13.

At a rally in Wasilla on Tuesday, President Donald Trump and Republican U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan said America’s war with Iran is worth the resulting increased cost of fuel and food for Americans.
“No matter what it is, it’s a small price to pay for stopping them from having a nuclear weapon,” Trump said of Iran.

COMMENTARY

This summer, I stood with a landowner at the edge of a hayfield her parents cleared more than 60 years ago. Wisps of her grey hair caught in the wind, and her eyes narrowed as she looked out over her farmland ground, thinking about so many neighboring farms that have been converted to gravel pits and subdivisions.
“Converting this should be considered a sin,” she told me. “My parents would be sick to know what has happened to this valley. We need our farmers. We need our farmland.”
